Camping is a time-honored tradition and pastime enjoyed by millions of people every year, but did you know your ATV can make it even more fun? The only challenge is making sure you bring all the necessary gear without running out of space — your ATV isn’t a pickup, after all. Luckily for you, you’ve got us! We at Road Track & Trail know that the challenge of ATV camping is an exciting one, so we’ve put together some tips on getting the most from your gear.

Maximizing Storage Space

Your ATV is great, but there’s always room for improvement. There are various upgrades that can add storage capacity to your quad, allowing you to bring more. Still, we recommend packing as light as possible. Every accessory and pack of supplies adds extra weight that can slow your ATV and reduce your fuel economy. Scale down your camping kit as much as you can by leaving behind luxuries and getting travel-sized versions of any essentials possible.

Shelter

Unless you love camping under an open sky, shelter can present a bit of a challenge with ATVs. Tents and sleeping bags aren’t known for being small and portable. Bringing them along will mean less room for other gear and supplies. If available, we recommend renting a cabin at your destination. If that’s not an option, consider a small, one-person backpacking tent. There are also lightweight sleeping bags and pads designed for backpacking that can round out your sleep setup.

Clothing

It’s important to have clothes you’re comfortable in, but you might be able to bring fewer than you think. Most items, especially pants, can be worn multiple times before they need to be washed, and there might even be a laundromat nearby. Keep in mind that moisture-wicking synthetic fabrics are going to stay clean and comfortable for longer than natural fibers like cotton, and they dry faster.

Miscellaneous

Other supplies you’ll need include basic toiletries, a first-aid kit, a mini tool kit, and various chargers. We recommend keeping these items together in one or two bags so you know exactly where they are at all times. You don’t want to have to go fishing in your cargo box for a bandage, after all!
