Test riding an ATV is the best way to ensure you’re choosing the perfect model for your needs. However, if you’ve never purchased an ATV before, you may not know what to look for on your upcoming test ride. To ensure you’re prepared, check out our helpful ATV test-driving guide below!

Size

Before you start your engine, you’ll want to double-check that your ATV is a good size. Hop into the seat, get into the riding positions, and double-check that you’re easily able to reach the handlebars, foot pedals, and footrests on the model. If the model has any mirrors, be sure to adjust them before the ride.

Steering

While riding your ATV, pay close attention to how the controls feel – if you find yourself struggling to adjust, this may not be the best model for you. It’s also important to keep a sharp eye on steering features and the dashboard. Make sure these components are a help, not a hindrance, and don’t distract you or impede your driving in any way.

Suspension

To ensure that your ATV is equipped to tackle tough terrain, be sure to hit at least one large bump or dip at moderately high speed. If the model bounces more than once after hitting the obstacle, it may be a sign the ATV’s suspension system isn’t strong enough for the type of terrain you plan to travel.
