If you are a powersports enthusiast and a dog lover looking to combine your two biggest passions, why not take your dog on your next UTV trip? With a little preparation and planning, you can ensure a safe and fun time for both you and your pet. Simply follow these tips from Road Track & Trail, and you and your dog will be racing around the trails in no time.

How to Transport Your Dog

It is important to secure your dog during the UTV ride. Otherwise, they might fall out of the vehicle or attempt to crawl onto your lap (which will make it more difficult for you to steer). To safely transport your dog, you will need a well-secured crate of the appropriate size. You should also take steps to make your dog more comfortable, such as adding a kennel cover during winter rides and ensuring proper ventilation during summer rides.

Rather than starting off with a massive ride, take the time to ensure that your dog is comfortable with crate travel. Introduce your dog to the crate in a calm, happy way, and throw some treats or toys inside so that your dog associates the crate with fun. Take a series of short, easy UTV rides. This will allow you to slowly build up to a full ride.

How to Pack Your UTV

When you pack your UTV for the trip, make sure that you have supplies for your dog as well. Food, water, and a pet first aid kit are essential. Use a collapsible bowl to save space. Some non-essential supplies that are nonetheless good to have around include an LED collar for night rides, booties to protect your dog’s paws from the rugged terrain, and a brush to move burrs and other debris when they become tangled in your pet’s fur.
