It's inevitable. You're out riding your ATV, enjoying cruising through the mud when suddenly you hit a patch that's just too thick and you're stuck. Now what? Getting unstuck from the mud can be a tricky proposition, but with the right tools and know-how, it’s achievable. Here are three ways to get back on track while out mudding.

Giving it a Solid Push

One way to get unstuck is to simply use your body weight. If you can get enough traction, you may be able to rock the ATV back and forth until it loosens from the mud enough to roll it out again. Better yet, ask some of your riding companions or other riders nearby for assistance.

Using a Winch

A winch can be a very effective way of getting an ATV unstuck from the mud. By attaching the winch to a secure object, such as a tree or another vehicle, you can provide a powerful pulling force that can help to break the ATV free from the grip of the mud.

Just make sure that the winch is firmly attached before beginning to pull and there’s no damage to the chains or straps, as a sudden release of the ATV could cause serious injury. You’ll also want everyone to stand a good distance away, just to be on the safe side.

Calling for Help

If all else fails, you may need to call for help. This can either come in the form of a friend or family member with the right tools or by calling a professional. For this reason, be sure to bring a cell phone with you and keep it in a watertight bag to avoid damage.

These are just a few ways you can easily get your ATV out of a sticky spot, but there are also accessories you can add to your quad to make it more prepared for the challenges of mudding.
